I talk a lot about starting and growing an online business or side hustle simply because I believe this is the most long-term, lucrative way to generate an income, achieve financial freedom and travel the world.
However, there are other routes you can take.
Here are 3 options out of hundreds I walk through in my free ebook - 200+ Ways to Generate an Income While Travelling the World:
1. Turn your home into a money-making machine
Rent out your house on Airbnb while you're away. But don't stop there - your car can earn its keep too. Platforms like Turo let you rent out your vehicle to travelers. Even your garage or driveway can become a source of income through apps like JustPark. These passive income streams can significantly offset your travel costs.
2. Become a local tour guide
If you fall in love with a place and want to stay a while, why not share that passion? Offer walking tours, food tours, or niche experiences through platforms like WithLocals or ToursByLocals. You'll meet interesting people, deepen your knowledge of the area, and earn money while doing it.
3. Volunteer your way around the world
Organizations like Worldpackers and Workaway offer opportunities to exchange your skills for accommodation and sometimes meals. While not directly income-generating, this can dramatically reduce your travel expenses. Options range from hostel work to farming to teaching - something for everyone. (I absolutely love this idea and will definitely be trying it out in the future as a great way to meet people!)
The key is to start with what you have and be creative. Your journey to location independence might just begin in your own backyard! 🗺️

🐶 It’s Nice to Feel Loved
For those who have recently joined the newsletter, I am mid house sitting my way round the UK and am currently on house sit No 3! I’m not going to lie, I don’t think house sitting is a long term strategy for me, but it is lovely to feel loved by all the animals we’re looking after!
This house sit we’re looking after a 12 year old labradoodle called Jesse and a feisty maltipoo called Lyra.
They’re both gorgeous, although the maltipoo isn’t keen on my husband! (Don’t blame her!) 😂
We’re here for the next 2 weeks before heading to house sit No 4 in London (which we’re all very much looking forward to).
