šŸ’° Top 5 Strategies to Start Earning Online

Hey there my freedom seeking friend!

Iā€™ve been receiving quite a few emails from subscribers recently and the top questions I always get asked are ā€˜how do I get started?ā€™, ā€˜what is the best way to start earning online?ā€™, and ā€˜what is the fastest way to become location independent?ā€™

So I thought this week Iā€™d share my top 5 online income strategies to help you get started on your nomadic journey!

1. Freelancing

Undoubtedly, the fastest route to location independence.

Start by assessing your skill set. Create a profile on a freelancing site like Upwork.com, then start bidding for jobs.

Very quickly you can find yourself with enough work to replace your existing income except you can do those jobs from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.

2. Start a niche newsletter

What used to be called email marketing has been transformed recently into the newsletter business primarily by apps such as Beehiiv & Substack.

  • First pick a topic or niche youā€™re passionate or curious about that also has a passionate audience; veganism, parenting, AI, crypto, travel, nutrition etc.

  • Start writing about it on a platform like Substack and then create a social account & publish lots of relevant and interesting content to attract people to your newsletter.

  • Grow your audience & monetise via; an exclusive paid newsletter, digital or physical products, affiliate offers, sponsorship etc.

3. Ecommerce

If you like the idea of selling your own physical products the ecommerce world is one of the fastest growing models online.

Start an Etsy shop, sell on TikTok, create your own Shopify store or sell on Amazon. The world is your oyster. It takes a bit more setting up and Amazon requires up front investment but my recommendation would be to get started selling print on demand on Etsy or your own shop to test the market.

4. Blogging

The blogging world has changed dramatically since AI came into play.

The days of creating a niche website & gaming the Google algorithm with SEO hacks are behind us. But if you want to grow a genuine business and are prepared to play the long game, this is still a lucrative and fun way to build a brand.

5. Digital Content Creator

Ebooks, online courses, audio products, guides, PDFā€™s, webinars, workshops, you name it. If you have a niche youā€™re passionate about or would love to immerse yourself in, becoming a digital content creator and selling information/education around your chosen niche is a great way to turn your passion into profit!

Start by growing your audience via a social platform such as LinkedIn or FB and invite people to join your email list (much like the newsletter model). As your audience grows you can create products or ebooks based on their feedback and questions.

I hope this helps! The opportunities are endless. Get out there and make it happen! šŸ˜

Please note Iā€™ve had great success with all of these models throughout my 14 year career online so donā€™t hesitate to reach out with any questions! šŸ˜

šŸ—ŗļø Create Your Own Walking Tours with GPSmyCity + Google Maps

One of my favourite ways to explore a new destination is by using the free version of GPSmyCity to discover interesting walking routes. Itā€™s a great way to get a feel for the place, but I tried out their paid version and I found that Google Maps offers better real-time guidance.

So, while on my recent French Riviera tour I combined the two tools for a seamless experience.

Hereā€™s my process to create your own walking tour:

  1. Browse GPSmyCity for Inspiration:
Use the free version to find walking tours or recommended landmarks. Take note of the stops that catch your eye.

  2. Plot Your Route on Google Maps:
Open Google Maps and search for the locations from the GPSmyCity walk.

    • Tap the ā€œDirectionsā€ button.

    • Click the three dots at the top-right corner and select ā€œAdd Stopā€ to include multiple locations.

    • Rearrange the stops as needed to create your ideal route.

  3. Save Your Route for Easy Access:
    Once your route looks good:

    • Tap the three dots next to the start or end location.

    • Choose ā€œAdd route to My Mapsā€. If you don't have a My Maps account, it will prompt you to create one (itā€™s free!).

    • Give the route a name and save it.

  4. Access the Route Offline:
When you arrive at your destination, open Google Maps and find your saved map under Your Places > Maps. You can launch it whenever youā€™re ready to start exploring.

For example hereā€™s the route I created for our walk through Monaco last week.

Why do I use this method? With Google Maps, I find the navigation is smoother, especially when winding through unfamiliar streets. Plus, having a saved map ready to go means I donā€™t have to rely on data or Wi-Fi when I'm out and about.

Give it a go on your next trip! Itā€™s an easy way to design a custom tour without any stress.

What a week itā€™s been!

We started with a luxurious dinner experience at a restaurant called Le Quai on the port of St Tropez.

Our good friends let us stay in their Airbnb so we felt it only right to treat them to dinner. Our mistake was in letting them pick the venue! Whooowheee! šŸ¤‘ Next time itā€™s Maccas. šŸ˜‚

Dancers at our restaurant

We then went for drinks at the Byblos hotel made famous by Bridgette Bardot & Mick Jagger. At ā‚¬85 per glass of wine this was not my usual Sat night hangout, but thankfully we werenā€™t picking up the tab for this one!

On Tuesday hubby & I went exploring the city of Cannes famous for the film festival (and not much else) and the wonderful Cap Dā€™Antibes!

(Out of all the places Iā€™ve been so far, Antibes is definitely somewhere Iā€™d love to return to and stay for longer. It was gorgeous with windy streets, lots of history, and a great ambiance.)

Palais des Festival - Cannes

The Painted Wall - spot the celebs!

Boat docked in Cannes - owned by the King of Bahrain! šŸ˜³

Antibes

Aptly named ā€˜Le Nomadeā€™ - Antibes

On Wednesday we explored Monaco for the day, which is insane! Iā€™ve never seen so many Ferrariā€™s, Porscheā€™s or Rollers all in one place, plus big boats. Very big boats!

Monaco Casino

Weā€™re gonna need a bigger boat!

Lastly we did a hop on hop off bus trip around Nice before leaving the South Of France. (NB - we only had a couple of hours and a bus tour is a great way to get a fast overview of a city)

Villefranche

Then to cap the week off, we had one day to discover Doha before flying back in to Phuket last night. (Doha is a fab city, definitely on my list to return and spend more time).

The Doha Tower

West Bay Skyline

Iā€™ve created some ā€˜things to doā€™ posts for the South of France which you can see below, but Iā€™ll also create some ā€˜day trip itinerary postsā€™ and fuller updates on our travels on the blog, FB page and group in the next week or so.

But to round up Iā€™d definitely like to return to Antibes, Monaco & Nice to spend more time and explore more, and also Doha at some point. One day (or just a few hours in some cases) was not enough in these places!

What is the largest island in the world by area (excluding continents)?

This island, known for its vast, unspoiled landscapes and indigenous culture, is the largest in the world that isnā€™t classified as a continent. Although it has a small population, its size and location play a crucial role in global geography and environmental research.

Can you name it?
