đ° 6 Unconventional Ways to Fund Your Nomadic Lifestyle Right Now
Hey there my freedom seeking friend!
So you want to be on the road, exploring every corner of the world, but your bank balance isnât exactly overflowing?
Well, letâs think outside the box for a bit. Not every income source for nomads has to be about freelancing or running a blog.
Letâs talk about six less obvious ways you can fund your nomadic adventures â no laptop required for some of these!
1. Micro-Consulting on Phone-Based Platforms
If youâve got a knack for giving advice or expertise in areas like business, marketing, health, or relationships, consider joining platforms like JustAnswer or Clarity.fm. These apps let you offer micro-consulting or quick advice sessions on a pay-per-minute basis.
You simply download the app, register as an expert, and start taking calls on your phone whenever youâre available. Itâs an ideal setup if you want to earn on the go without being tied to lengthy calls.
Some consultants can charge upwards of $1â$5 per minute, so a few calls a week can make a significant difference to your travel budget.
2. Rent Out Your Stuff (or Yourself) Back Home
If youâre not using something, why not let it make you money? Start with your car: services like Turo allow you to rent out your car while youâre away, and many people make a tidy sum each month.
But why stop there? Sites like Fat Llama let you rent out almost anythingâcameras, camping gear, even power tools. Or, go one step further and let out your home on platforms like Airbnb or SpareRoom if youâre away long-term.
And if you want to get really creative, thereâs the option to rent out storage space in your home through sites like Neighbor. Youâd be amazed at how quickly these little earnings add up while youâre enjoying a beach in Bali.
3. Mystery Shopping While You Travel
Who knew you could get paid to shop, dine, or even stay in hotels? As a mystery shopper, youâre essentially getting paid to test out and report on various customer experiences.
Companies like Market Force or BestMark connect mystery shoppers with assignments all over the world, from restaurant visits to hotel check-ins. They cover your expenses and pay you for your time. So, you can get a free dinner, a hotel stay, and maybe even a nice little payout while youâre at it.
Just think of it as getting paid to do what youâd probably already be doing on your travels anyway â exploring and dining out!
4. Digital Asset Sales: Templates, Presets, and More
You donât have to be a professional designer to sell digital products. Think about things like Lightroom photo presets, custom email templates, or printables like travel planners.
If youâve already created a unique spreadsheet, checklist, or guide that others might find useful, you can sell it on sites like Etsy or Gumroad. Itâs a one-time setup that can bring passive income for months.
And the best part is that once youâve created and listed it, thereâs no extra work required. Every time someone buys your digital asset, you get paid without lifting a finger, which means more time for adventure and less time working.
5. Affiliate Partnerships with Local Businesses
Most people think of affiliate marketing as something big brands and influencers do, but thereâs an untapped market in creating small-scale affiliate deals with local businesses, especially if youâre active on social media.
If youâre a fan of a local cafĂ©, tour operator, or boutique in a place youâre visiting, ask if theyâd consider a small affiliate deal. You promote their business to other travelers or on social media, and in return, they pay you a commission for each person you refer.
Itâs a low-key way to support local businesses and earn a little commission at the same time. You donât need millions of followersâjust a genuine audience that values your travel tips!
6. Host Free Walking Tours in a City You Love
If you know a city inside and out, why not share your insights and stories with fellow travelers? Free walking tours are incredibly popular, and although theyâre technically âfree,â attendees typically tip well.
The average earnings for a guide range widely depending on the city and the crowd, but recently I took a walking tour in Toulouse, led by a local who knew every nook and cranny of the town. By the end of the three-hour tour, I reckon he would have likely pocketed at least $300-$400 from tips alone. For three hours of sharing his passion for the city? Not too shabby!
All you need is a bit of local knowledge, a few interesting stories, and a genuine interest in connecting with people. Registering on platforms like GuruWalk, Airbnb Experience, or showing up at popular spots to offer free tours can get you started. Plus, itâs a fantastic way to spend time in a city you love, meet new people, and earn a few hundred dollars without the need for a formal setup.
Each of these ideas adds a bit more adventure to the concept of making money on the road. So next time youâre planning your route, why not plan a few income sources along the way, too?
After all, who says funding your travels has to mean staying in front of a screen all day?

âïž 5 Hacks for Finding the Cheapest Flights Every Time You Book
Looking for flight deals doesn't have to be complicated. After booking hundreds of flights over the years, I've narrowed it down to five simple tricks that consistently find the best prices.
1. The Price Alert Strategy
Set up price alerts on Google Flights and Skyscanner for your chosen routes. When prices drop, you'll get instant notifications. Being flexible with dates often yields the best deals.
2. The Multi-City Hack
Sometimes booking separate legs of your journey costs less than a direct route. Check prices both ways - as a single ticket and as separate bookings. Just ensure you leave enough time between flights if booking separately.
3. The Search Window Sweet Spot
Book international flights 3-6 months ahead for the best deals, especially for peak seasons. For domestic flights, the sweet spot is usually 1-3 months ahead.
4. The Comparison Tool Trick
Always check multiple search engines - Skyscanner, Google Flights, and Momondo often show different prices for the same route. Each pulls data from different airlines and booking sites.
5. The Mid-Week Advantage
Flights departing Tuesday through Thursday are often cheaper than weekend flights. Use the calendar view in flight search engines to easily spot the cheapest days to fly.
Pro Tip: Consider budget airlines for shorter routes, but always factor in baggage fees and airport location when comparing total costs.

đŠ GâDay Brisbane!
We have landed in BrisVegas (as the locals say), where weâll be staying until August next year when my daughter will head off to college in London, and my husband & I will begin our backpacking journey through South America (at least thatâs the plan anyway!)
First impressions are Iâm going to LOVE it here!
The weather is fantastic (apart from the very freakish twister that came our way a couple of days ago đł), the city is not too big - not too small, the people are super laidback and easy, and the whole place has got a great vibe about it.
In less than a week weâve secured an apartment for 9 months, (right on the river with a gorgeous view of the story bridge), bought a little run around, and my daughter bagged herself a job!
So, my tasks for the next 9 months are to, (finally) get my ecommerce store off the ground, relaunch my podcast, become much more consistent with my content creation, and create my solopreneur specific community (with training) to help others start their online nomadic journey, which Iâll probably launch on Skool. (Phew! Lots to do!)
In the meantime here are some early days shots of beautiful Brisbane!

Testimonial Received This Week
Wow. What a great course. I'm 59 and have been on this particular journey a good part of that. I've taken quite a few courses and devoured so much literature on the topic in that time. And even though a lot of the information is not new, your methodology is. I absolutely love how you've put this information together. It speaks directly to me. And not just the course, I went to look at your journal, going to order it as soon as I'm done here. It's like you know my weaknesses. I believe I've found a mentor. You obviously know how to do this. And the step by step breakdown you provide is really motivating. My problem, obviously, has been to get going. The info is there in my head. And I have content and products ready to go. I just need to do it and your course has really motivated me to get 'er done. Deeply appreciate it and looking forward to learning more.
