🌍 Embracing the unknown!

It's Nomad Day!!!!

🌍 Embracing the Unknown!

Hey There Nomad!

So right now I'm poolside at the Outrigger Hotel in Khao Lak, a beautiful paradise just an hour North of our home base, Phuket.

The sun is dancing on the water, and there's a gentle breeze that’s undoubtedly whispering, "You're exactly where you're meant to be." (Or maybe that was the cocktail I had earlier) 😂

Yes folks, it’s happened! Friday was officially NOMAD DAY!

We are now full time nomads and perpetual travellers with no fixed abode!

However, I have to tell you, my excitement faded fast on Friday and is very slow to return at the moment. I hadn’t taken into account how heartbroken I was going to feel saying goodbye to our beloved rescue dog, Buddy.

Buddy - pic taken on Friday morning

Buddy came into our lives at the height of the Covid pandemic, as were donating a sofa to a Thai family who like so many over here had fallen on very hard times. With no money to feed him and nowhere to take care of him, the lady begged us to take this tiny little furball or he’d be left on the street.

But lucky for us, Buddy buddied up with a golden lab down the road called Honey since they were pups, and he’s going to live with her and a family who already adore him and who are ready to give him all the love and attention he deserves.

However, knowing this didn’t make the farewell any easier and by Friday night I was feeling very unsettled and homesick!

A couple of days on and I realise that it’s going to take a minute to adjust to our new reality but I know this is the right path for us. It’s the path we’ve been working toward and dreaming about for 14 years! (See my post about moving from home to hobo below)

Sure, I’m enveloped in uncertainty right now, but that's where the growth happens. That's where we learn to let go of what no longer serves us and make space for new adventures.

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone

Neale Donald Walsch

So here's my challenge to you this week: Identify one thing in your life that you need to let go of to make room for growth. Maybe it's a limiting belief, a toxic relationship, or a comfort zone that's starting to feel more like a cage.

Whatever it is, join me in taking a deep breath, and letting it go. Trust that, like us (and Buddy), you're making space for something beautiful.

Here's to turning the page and embracing the unknown.

Forwards,

Jo :)

✈️ Nomad Tip of the Week

Master the Art of Packing (and Living) Light

When my dear old Mum passed in 2022, she had zero interest in the boxes of memories under the stairs, the packets of old photos, her ornaments, expensive furniture, even family heirlooms. She didn’t care. All she wanted was more time with her family.

This taught me a valuable lesson.

We fill our houses and lives with so much unimportant ‘stuff’ under the illusion it makes us happier or more fulfilled. But at the end of the day, it all ends up in charity shops, gets passed down, donated or dumped!

Why not master the art of living and packing light now?

We just sold, donated or dumped a houseful of ‘stuff’ this past couple of weeks and have once again reduced our life to a backpack and a couple of suitcases. During the summer we’ll reduce that even more to just one backpack each.

It’s incredibly liberating!

Packing light is a skill well worth mastering. It simplifies travel, reduces stress, and saves money on baggage fees.

But it takes a brutal mentality! 😂 (I’m still working on it)

I challenge you to walk around your house this week and throw away five things you don’t need anymore! And if you’re already travelling, lighten your load!

The less you own and buy, the more mental space and money you free up to travel. And the less you carry, the more freedom you have to enjoy your travels without the burden of heavy luggage.

It’s time to lighten up! Give it a try 😁

🧭 Travel Trivia

In which country can you visit a surreal landscape featuring a forest of over 200 ancient oak trees that have been uniquely shaped and intertwined over time?

This bizarre forest features hundreds of pine trees with a distinctive 90-degree bend at their base, before curving back upwards to grow straight toward the sky. The uniform shape of the trees has led to many theories about their origin, from unique gravitational forces to intentional human manipulation.

The most likely explanation is that the trees were shaped by farmers in the 1930s, possibly to create naturally curved timber for furniture or boat building. However, the true reason behind this mysterious forest remains unknown, adding to its allure!
