š„¾ How to Outrun Your Excuses
Hey There Nomad!
I saw this great story on FB this week and wanted to share:
Jim Thorpe, a Native American athlete, arrived at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics ready to compete in the decathlon and pentathlon. However, on the morning of his events he discovered his shoes had been stolen. Panic could have easily set in, but Thorpe refused to let this setback derail his Olympic dreams.
With time ticking away, Thorpe and his coach frantically searched through the rubbish tips near the stadium. There, they found two mismatched shoes. One was too big, so Thorpe had to wear extra socks to make it fit.
Despite this far-from-ideal footwear, Thorpe went on to win gold medals in both the decathlon and pentathlon, setting Olympic records that would stand for decades. He competed in jumping events, sprints, and even the 1500-meter run in these makeshift shoes, outperforming athletes with proper equipment.
The Lesson
Conditions aren't always perfect.
What happens if you keep saying āIāll do this whenā¦ā, but āwhenā never comes?
We don't always have the right tools, resources or even knowledge at hand, but it's amazing what we can achieve with a little tenacity and creative thinking.
What I love about Thorpe's story is that itās a perfect example of how our mindset and determination often matter more than our circumstances.
When faced with obstacles, we can either say āwell thatās it, it wonāt workā, or we can choose to adapt, persevere and try anyway.
Action Step
Identify one challenge or obstacle in your life or business that you've been using as an excuse to hold yourself back.
It could be a lack of resources, less-than-ideal circumstances, or missing "tools" you think you need.
Now, channel your inner Jim Thorpe and brainstorm three creative ways to overcome this obstacle with what you have available right now.
Choose one of these solutions and take a concrete step towards implementing it before the week is out.
Remember, perfect conditions are rare - your ability to adapt and persevere is what truly matters. Share your experience in the group! Your creative problem-solving might just inspire fellow nomads facing similar challenges!

Hereās a few interesting tidbits, tips and discoveries I think might be useful or intriguing to you.
I like to travel light and take only cabin luggage with me on a trip. I found this natty little roll on that meets cabin luggage airline requirements that Iāve ordered and am trying out. Iāll let you know how I go. Iāve also ordered myself a set of these, which can help with minimising my packing - note the double zips!

Is your iphone completely cluttered with thousands of images & videos (like mine)? If so - check out this video - I love the tip about taking it a day at a time for a year. Unfortunately I havenāt been disciplined enough to do that as yet, but itās a great idea!
Quote That Caught My Eye
In many cases, what you hope to learn by reading books or listening to podcasts can only be learned by attempting what you fear. Some knowledge is only revealed through action
āļø Community Question
For someone getting back in the online game (in a while), which email company is good value these days - aka free to start off with?
The answer depends on your goals with your newsletter.
If you want to run a paid subscription-based newsletter, where your business model is that people subscribe and pay to receive your content on a regular basis, Beehiiv, Substack & Convertkit are the main kids on the block.
Substack is free forever with unlimited subscribers. Itās a bit like Medium with email, so itās a blog/email rolled into one. They only charge when you start charging for subscriptions & they take a 10% cut. It doesnāt have automations, funnels or sales style bells and whistles, so if you want a straightforward, solid newsletter platform where you can also easily embed podcasts and videos in your content, Substack is the way to go.
Beehiiv charges a monthly fee, which used to be fixed (thatās what attracted me to it) but is now based on how many subscribers you have, although your first 2500 are free. Like Substack they have the paid subscription model built in, but because they charge a monthly free do not take any commission, so you keep all your profits. They offer automations, funnels, and are expanding into a standalone blogging platform. It's great if you want to sell courses or products alongside your newsletter.
ConvertKit is the choice of many online creators. Itās selling point is that itās extremely user friendly and is a modern, social-sharing friendly platform. I havenāt used it so canāt say too much, but itās now offering a very attractive newbie package of 10,000 subs for free! You do get limited automations but you can now run a paid subscription newsletter with them also.
Lastly, for a cheaper, but very beautifully designed more traditional email autoresponder, my recommendation would be Flodesk. At only $35 a month for unlimited subscribers (50% off if you purchase via this link), itās most definitely one of the cheapest options out there. It doesnāt have the capability to run a paid subscription newsletter, but it does have landing pages, automation funnels etc. Itās also more recently added a checkout functionality for selling products which is a paid add on.
NB - If you want to run a paid newsletter
Just a quick note. Substack is a lovely platform and looks great as itās free. But if you plan on adding a paid newsletter make sure you do the maths;
Example scenario;
You build an audience of 20,000 free subs and 1000 join your subscription newsletter @ $10/month.
On Substack that would cost you $1000 a month - 1000 subs x $10 = $10,000 Ć 10% commission = $1000 a month to Substack.
On Beehiiv or Convertkit it would only cost you $150 a month which is their pricing for 20k overall subs.
Sometimes free isnāt best! (Although no reason not to start there until youāve built a substantial list and then migrate). š
Hope this helps!
