🗺️ Explore Your Backyard!

Hey There Nomad!

When was the last time you really looked at the place where you live?

I mean really looked at it, like a tourist would.

It’s easy to get caught up in daily routines and miss the fascinating stories that surround us. Have you ever wondered about the history behind your local buildings, or what shaped the culture and beliefs of your area?

Arriving in Sheffield this week, the birthplace of my daughter Cerys, I was inspired to take an early morning walk and explore the city as a tourist would.

Even though I lived here for nearly a decade, 20 years ago, I'm ashamed to say I never knew that Queen Victoria opened the Town Hall in 1897. Nor did I appreciate the beauty of the old Victorian, Renaissance Revival, and Gothic-style buildings.

Sheffield Town Hall

And while I was aware of Sheffield's significance in the steel industry and its famous cutlery, I didn't know it started way back in the 14th century, or what actually occurred to turn Sheffield into the 'Steel City'.

It's amazing how we can live somewhere, sometimes for years, and yet be so blind to its wonders.

This week, I encourage you to explore your own surroundings as if you were a visitor.

Download GPSmyCity and take a walking tour of your area. Look up, look around, and Google interesting facts.

We often think we need to travel far and wide to see amazing things, but sometimes, they're right in front of us.

Happy exploring!

Jo 😊

⚒️ The Working Traveller Resource of the Week

As my make money post this week is about writing, I thought I’d introduce you to the lovely Sam Barnes (my name sake) from Passive Self-Publishing!

Sam transformed his KDP account into a 6-figure business while juggling university studies and is a lovely lad to learn from. So impressed with his journey I actually jumped on a call with him a few months ago to make sure he was the real deal and to discuss his video training program.

KDP Mastery is an in depth program, teaching you how to create and sell no-content and low-content books on Amazon KDP and scale the business to 4-5 figures monthly.

Including everything you need to know from researching your niche, picking the best keywords, creating your books, using KDP Ads and scaling your business, this an A-Z guide to growing a side hustle selling low-content (puzzle books, colouring books etc) books on Amazon.

If self publishing is something you’d love to explore then here’s what I’d do next;

  1. Check out his sales page and get a feel for what the course entails

  2. Go through some of his free videos on his youtube channel

  3. Book a 30 min call with him (scroll to bottom of sales page) and have a chat to make sure you feel comfortable with him as your teacher

Only investigate this if you have the time and attention to give to it. This is not a quick win, or get rich quick business. As with all models it will take time, commitment and unrelenting focus.

✈️ Nomad Tip of the Week

💰 Less is More

When we start or grow a side hustle or online business, it's easy to get bogged down in details.

We can end up massively overcomplicating things, when the truth is, success boils down to three simple steps:

Content, Lead Generation, and Products.

Let's break it down.

1. Content - Attract an Audience

The first step is to create content that grabs attention. This could be blog posts, videos, podcasts, social media posts, or a mix.

The key is to provide value, whether that's through education, entertainment, or inspiration. Quality content helps you build an audience who trusts and follows you.

2. Lead Generation - Turn Audience into Engaged Followers

Once you have an audience, the next step is to turn them into engaged followers. This means capturing their contact details, usually through an email list.

Offer something valuable in return, like a free ebook, a checklist, or an exclusive video. These followers are your potential customers, so nurture this relationship.

3. Products - Turn Followers into Customers

Finally, develop products or services that solve problems for your followers. These could be digital products like courses or ebooks, consulting services, or physical products.

The aim is to provide something they need or want. When your followers see the value in what you offer, they become paying customers.

If you already have a product, service or offer, simply reverse the process. How are you generating leads? How are you growing an audience?

Pedaling Hard but Going Nowhere?

If you feel you've tried everything and are going nowhere, ask whether you've focused your attention on these three steps or have you been majoring in the minutiae?

There are always a million things you thing you need to do - create a new logo, add a fancy header to a Facebook page, learn how to use a new AI tool, build a website, etc etc. But your main focus should always be on one of the three steps above.

Every time you go to work on your side hustle this week ask yourself, am I engaged in Step 1,2,or 3? If the answer is No, pivot your focus.

And if the answer is Yes, but you still feel stalled, perhaps you need to spread your time more evenly across these steps or refine your approach within each step.

Don’t Know Where to Start?

If you haven’t yet started see my post on how to use AI to help you choose a niche and business model and get started today!

Keep it simple, stay focused, be patient, and your side hustle will grow.

Have a fab week! :)

Sheffield City Hall

This was my last job before I became an entrepreneur. General Manager of the Sheffield City Hall from circa 2002 - 2005, some 20 years ago! Beautiful venue which holds bands, concerts, orchestras and shows.

As we walked past I noticed David Essex is playing on my birthday this year, (is he popular outside of the UK?) I won’t be in Sheffield at that time, but how awesome he’s still performing at age 76! Looks pretty good on his posters aswell!

Those were the days, but in the words of the inimitable David Essex, ‘it’s just another winters tale😂
